Back to Homeschool High School

Well, back to school is officially here. We are still gently easing our way in mostly because we are displaced. We are in Texas helping my parents prepare for a move to where we live in Georgia. We have been here almost three months and I sure do miss my husband, animals, and my own house. I am enjoying spending time with parents though. They aren't getting any younger and I want to enjoy them while I still can.

This is our second year of homeschooling high school. Last year we more or less muddled through, so we were thrilled when Time4Learning announced they were going to offer high school homeschool courses. My daughter signed up to take English II, Algebra I, Biology, World History, and Economics/Personal Finance.

We will continue using Drive Thru History (I love it), Vocabulary Spelling City (love the vocabulary flash cards), and whatever life skills/art/music my daughter delves into. I am considering having her take a high school writing course as well. She is an o.k. writer as far as story writing goes, but she really needs more help with other forms of writing and I don't think it will work for me to be her teacher. She doesn't always see eye-to-eye with me or my ideas.

She is interested in taking some type of class like karate. She took classes when she was little so at least she knows what to expect. I really wish there was an anime group in our area. She loves anime, especially Hetalia.

I hope to work in a few road trips (field trips) in this year. It was always fun to take field trips when she was younger. I just need to be a little more creative now that she is in high school. She's pretty picky!

So, what are your back to school plans this year? I'd love it if you'd leave me a comment.

  2. We are also using Time4Learning this year for high school. My twins are using it for English, Biology, Economics, and Health. We used it before, and we were so happy to see they were offering it for high school this year. So far we are very happy with it!

    1. I know the economics/personal finance is a little dry but not everything can be fun I guess. It has good info she needs to learn especially since she wants run her own business. She has to start somewhere.

  3. Jackie,

Thank you so much for visiting my blog and reading my contribution for this month's hop.

It sounds like your daughter is going to have a very interesting school year. I hadn't heard about Drive Thru History. I will take a look!

    1. Thanks, Sue! The Drive Thru History has just enough humor in it to hold her short attention span. I LOVE them, but I'm a history lover.

  4. Sounds like you have some good plans for this year. I'm starting high school with my third student now and sometimes it still feels like we're muddling through. LOL

  5. Hi Jackie. I found your post because of the Homeschool Hop. I hope everything is going well for you, your family, and your parents. I'm sorry that when you wrote this post, your parents hadn't moved yet. Hopefully everything will be done soon so you can reunite with your hubby.

This is my daughter's freshman year of high school homeschooling and so far so good. Thanks for mentioning Time4learning classes, I will check it out to see if it's something i'd like to include in her lessons. You mentioned your daughter needed other forms of writing? Maybe she'd like to come over to the blog my daughter just created. It's a online book club. Your daughter could read a book and then write about it for the blog if she wanted. Or, she could write about a topic of interest to her and submit it to us as well. My daughter's blog is: http://imreadingit.wordpress.com

    1. I am back in Georgia finally. I am not sure for how long. My parent's house is on now on the market and they have an offer, just not so sure about it. We will see.

Your daughter's book club sounds great. She should add her blog to the Let's Homeschool High School Student Blog Roll.

I will mention it to my daughter. Thanks for sharing it. I won a writing class that is a one year class and hope to start her in it around January.

Thanks so much for stopping by my blog.
